What you will do

A diagram, brochure or schedule and an accompanying email: five message gaps plus three further questions.

Manage this part’s time

Suggested MockPip routine: 1 minute to inspect labels and the message, 5 minutes for the gaps, 2 minutes for the remaining questions and 1 minute to check restrictions.

Practice routines are MockPip suggestions, not additional official timing rules.

A step-by-step approach

  1. Identify the diagram’s categories, legend, units and footnotes.
  2. Extract the message writer’s requirements.
  3. Compare candidate choices against all requirements together.
  4. Check any calculation, exception or eligibility rule before selecting.

Techniques for this part

  • Build a small constraint checklist: date, time, location, price and eligibility. Reject an option as soon as one required condition fails.
  • Read fine print after finding a likely answer; discounts or availability can depend on a condition.
  • For schedules, compare start and finish times rather than assuming duration from the title.

See the technique in action

Original mini-example: A class runs 6–8 p.m. on Tuesday and costs $25 per person. A family of two needs an evening class on Thursday. The price fits a $50 budget, but the day does not, so this option fails.

This example is independently written for practice.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Choosing a suitable time with the wrong day.
  • Ignoring age limits, advance booking or exclusions.
  • Calculating a total from prices that use different units.

Choose an answer for every question

Wrong answers do not lose points. Eliminate implausible choices, then choose one best answer per question; leave no question blank. This does not mean selecting every option.

Your next practice exercise

For each answer, note the exact label, row or footnote that supports it. Explain why the closest competing option fails one of the message’s constraints.

Before you finish

  • Did I inspect the legend and notes?
  • Does the option satisfy every requirement?
  • Are all eight selections complete?
